I can’t say enough good things about the customer service I’ve received from the Misfits Market team.
For example, I received one bell pepper in my first Imperfect box, but I normally like to use two or three bell peppers in one dish.
Also, the prices are pretty similar so that's a plus too. You can choose your preferred delivery day (Tuesday through Saturday) before checkout. She went to track the box and it said that the order would be coming on TUESDAY. The benefit?
After rounds of phone calls and interviews, it appears that food banks generally don’t take fresh produce donations at all. Hence, Ugly Produce. I've been back and forth via email with someone in their support staff over the course of 24h, and the most he's been able to tell me was that they delivered the last Saturday in January (duh) and are set to deliver this coming week...and still no explanation or apology for the massive inconvenience not getting my subscription this past week has caused me. I’ll definitely be watching for my state to be included. In the first shipment, I got a bunch of broccoli, which I don’t usually buy unless I put myself on a diet plan. While I wasn’t given the option to add or subtract specific items from the boxes, I felt confident I’d get a better variety than from a local CSA, which can only include whatever grew that week in one region (rather than across the country) and could mean a disproportionate amount of one ingredient to use up quickly before it spoils. I never knew such a thing existed. It may sound like a joke, but billions of pounds of this fresh and delicious food is tossed each year because grocery stores only want “perfect” foods on their shelves. For the second time in 4 weeks, I've been left without a box on the date I expected it--and left to wait another full week to receive one**. I don't think I'll do one every week, just with the fact that I like knowing my ingredients before I have them in my hands so I can pre-plan what I'm going to make and how much.
We’re talking up to 40 percent cheaper than grocery prices, and because Misfits Market only carries org… Wow! But I realized how fun it was to discover new recipes to use the novel-to-me ingredients I received. The Imperfect boxes win that contest, hands down, with very little packaging to recycle and the option to have the delivery person collect the previous week's empty box when the next delivery box arrives.
